Kladruby nad Labem - The Kladruby stud farm will find out in the spring if it has advanced to the next round and made progress in its effort to be listed on the UNESCO list. The alternative is that it will need to supplement its application with more information, the stud farm stated in a press release.
The International Council on Monuments and Sites, which is an advisory body to UNESCO, will either recommend the application at the World Heritage Committee meeting or request additional materials again. The UNESCO committee meeting is scheduled to take place in early July in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The stud farm is striving for the inscription of a landscape that has been shaped by horse breeding for more than five centuries on the list of cultural heritage. It has been on the tentative list since 2007. The Czech Republic has 17 items on the list, which it plans to gradually nominate for the UNESCO list.
Pardubice Region already has two unique world heritage sites. They are the Renaissance castle in Litomyšl and the village carnival processions and masks in Hlinecko.
The stud farm's application describes the history of coexistence between people and horses. A separate chapter covers the description of the Old Kladruber horse breed. It is the only original Czech breed raised in Czech territory.
"To preserve the Old Kladruber horse, it is not enough to protect just the horse itself, but also the specific conditions of the stud farm in Kladruby nad Labem, especially its entire landscape. Additionally, it is necessary to preserve the traditional breeding practices that shape the breed," said Jiří Machek, the director of the stud farm.
The supplemented document was submitted by the Czech Republic through the Ministry of Culture to two institutions, the UNESCO World Heritage Centre and the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS).
