Klatovy - Klatovy is renovating a fifty-meter outdoor pool with a depth of two meters. The city, with 23,000 residents, will invest over 50 million crowns in its modernization. The modernized pool in the so-called summer city baths is expected to open this summer season, in early June. This was stated by Mayor Rudolf Salvetr (ODS) to ČTK. This is the last of the outdoor pools in Klatovy that has not yet been renovated. The city has previously modernized the children's and small pools.
"In addition to meeting all modern parameters, including barrier-free access, there will be a complete overhaul of the pool basin, technology, and facilities for refreshments will also be created there," said the mayor. According to Deputy Mayor Pavel Strolený (ANO), this is a general renovation of a building from the 1970s. "Besides the complete replacement of the interior, there will be new technology for water treatment and distribution for all outdoor pools. The recreational area will also receive new facilities," he added.
The modernization began last September, according to Strolený, when the city spent about a third of the planned costs. "We will spend over 50 million crowns in total because the technological units are not a cheap affair," said the mayor.
Construction workers removed outdated technology and installed new systems with connections. They demolished upper walls, poured the pool's bottom, laid new linings, and built concrete paths, steps, and retaining walls. The architectural study for the renovations is from 2019.
The baths on the Úhlava were established by the city in 1928, when it purchased meadows on the right bank of the Úhlava and built changing rooms, toilets, showers, two pools for children and non-swimmers, and a restaurant a year later. In 1932, the baths were flooded, and four years later, a weir was constructed there. Gradually, volleyball, tennis, basketball courts, and a children's carousel were added. Three pools were built on the beach. The first was for children with a fountain, the second was 1.6 meters deep with a slide. All were filled with river water until the end of the 1980s, to which chlorine was added with shovels. Today, the water is treated and cleaned.
Ten years ago, the city modernized the neighboring indoor pool for approximately 60 million crowns. Three saunas, a whirlpool, a pool with a lazy river, caves, and a 69-meter-long waterslide were added to the swimming part. From its transparent upper part, there is a viewpoint of the surroundings. "And it will continue to be modernized because the twenty-five-meter pool was only repaired. We are also considering putting photovoltaic panels on the roof. So the entire pool hall would be renovated to accommodate that," stated Strolený.
