Kolín - Kolín is planning a renovation of the facade of the city theater, with original statues of muses to be installed on the building, among other things. The work is scheduled for 2023. If the city has enough funds for the project, it could be carried out as early as next year, said Mayor Michael Kašpar (Change for Kolín).
How much the renovation will cost will be revealed only by the project documentation. "We will definitely be discussing a price of at least ten million crowns," Kašpar stated. The council has already commissioned the preparation of the project documentation, which will be completed within five to six months.
The Kolín theater is an important functionalist building of Czechoslovak interwar theater architecture and the last work of architect Jindřich Freiwald in Kolín. It first opened to the audience in November 1939. Kašpar mentioned that according to the original design, statues of muses were supposed to be placed on the upper part of the building, but they eventually ended up in the attic. The city would like to install them on the building during the facade renovation. "They were never placed there and have been in the theater's attic for years. They are large ceramic statues and are available," the mayor added.
Various renovation works and interior adjustments have been carried out in the Kolín theater in the past. The most significant included a complete reconstruction of the electrical installation, repair of the stage's lifting equipment, replacement of the stage floor, modernization of electroacoustics, and stage lighting. In 2013, a city gallery was opened on the third floor according to a design by David Vávra, and another gallery and theater club were created in the basement.
