Neratov - A roof will appear on the church in Neratov in the Rychnov region by October this year, after it was ruined by a Russian artillery shell towards the end of World War II. The church has been without a roof since 1957 when its vault collapsed, said Josef Suchár from the Neratov Association, which has been restoring the monument since 1990. "On August 20, there will be a pilgrimage celebration at the church, and a mass should already be held under the new roof," said Suchár. According to him, finishing work on the roof will be necessary in September and October, and windows will also need to be placed in the church's ruins. The repairs of the pilgrimage church will, according to Suchár, continue in the coming years. The roofing of the church will cost approximately 20 million crowns. "The Ministry of Culture contributed, as well as expatriate associations, and funds have also been obtained from European Union funds and other institutions," said Suchár. The association originally aimed for the church to have a glass roof, but after years of negotiations, only part of the roof will be glazed. "Only the portion above the altar will be glazed; the rest will be covered with roofing material, and the underlayment of planed boards will be visible from the church," said Suchár. The roof of the Church of the Assumption of Mary in Neratov will prevent the deterioration of the repaired load-bearing walls of the church and improve its usability. The church, which was threatened with demolition twice during the communist regime, houses benches and a podium where services and cultural events are held.
