Kutná Hora - Kutná Hora is considering whether to proceed to the final phase of construction after two costly stages of building a sports hall, which involves creating training facilities. This would require another more than 20 million crowns, and it is uncertain whether the town hall will secure a grant for this part. In the case of the second stage, this was not successful and the work had to be financed through a loan. According to Mayor Josef Viktora (ANO), the city should continue construction and complete the entire complex within this year. He pointed out that the training hall would allow for better commercial use of the entire facility. The fate of the project will be discussed by the councilors on Tuesday.
Although the sports hall is functional without training facilities, the project anticipated them. "I am convinced that although it is expensive, we should embark on the third stage. Everything is dimensioned and designed for the third stage - air conditioning, heating, ventilation," Viktora told CTK. According to him, the city could exercise the option and award the contract to the company that is currently completing the second stage. The mayor highlighted rising prices and a lack of capacity among construction firms. "Everyone is convincing us that if we do not exercise the option and go to a new tender, we will not be able to secure the price of 20 million," he stated.
The first phase, involving the construction of the main building, cost 60.5 million crowns, and the town hall obtained a grant from the Ministry of Education and from the region for it. However, in the case of the second stage, which was the construction of facilities for athletes, the city did not receive a grant. Approximately 78 million crowns had to be paid from an investment loan.
According to Viktora, some councilors believe it would be better to return the fifteen-million crown state grant for the first phase. "The grant ties us down quite a bit; the city has to operate it for ten years and there is no option for commercial rentals," he noted.
The multifunctional hall will be intended for schools and the public, and should also host social and cultural events such as lectures, fairs, or exhibitions. The former city management wanted to build the hall in another location - near Kamenná stezka Elementary School, but this was dropped after the elections. The project was supposed to be financed by a private investor, who backed out of his intention after changes in the town hall.
