Karviná – The Darkov Spa in Karviná plans to start building a water park next year for 300 million crowns. It will be located in the area of the Rehabilitation Sanatorium in Karviná-Hranice, and some of the pools will be filled with healing water. It will operate year-round, with the water park designed by architects in a functionalist style. This was reported by the spokesman for the spa, Miroslav Slaný.
The spa will build the water park using its own resources. Contrary to the original plans presented last year, the project will be about half the size because they did not agree on cooperation with Karviná. The city is preparing to renovate its indoor swimming pool.
"It is a risk for us to go for the originally envisioned version of a huge water park if we do not have the city's support and co-financing from municipal and regional sources. Instead of one of the largest water parks in the country, a unique but smaller thermal spa park will be created," said the general director of Darkov Spa, Pavlína Filipi.
However, according to her, the project is designed so that in the second phase, the water park can be expanded if any co-financing sources from grants are found. Part of the costs will be covered by the spa from its own sources, and part will be borrowed from banks. "By the end of the year, complete documentation will be finished, and the spa will apply for a joint zoning decision and building permit. Construction is expected to start next year," said Slaný.
According to him, the main attraction of the water park will be iodine-bromine brine from the spa's thermal mineral spring, which will fill some of the pools. "The unique iodine-bromine water known as brine has a high iodine content, even higher than in coastal areas. Its beneficial healing effects are beneficial for the circulatory system, help in the treatment of musculoskeletal and nervous system disorders, as well as in the treatment of gynecological and skin diseases," said the spokesman. Baths in brine are an everyday part of balneotherapy at Darkov Spa.
"The final design of the Karviná spa water park, which will be in a functionalist style, was developed by architect Martin Kareš and the renowned Brno atelier Kareš Rais, which holds many prestigious awards," said Slaný.
A connecting corridor will link the Rehabilitation Sanatorium building and the new pool hall. The spa expects that the thermal water park will attract new tourists to the city from across the country and abroad. "Domestic clientele should prevail. Visitors from Poland, who are just a few minutes' drive from Karviná, should also come," said Slaný.
Darkov Spa focuses on the treatment of musculoskeletal and nervous system disorders. The owner of the spa is billionaire Zdeněk Zemek, who also owns spa complexes in Luhačovice, Mariánské Lázně, Velké Losiny, and Ostrožská Nová Ves, among others.
