Liberec - Representatives of the Liberec Region and the city of Liberec, along with architects, will present a public project next week concerning the riverbank and the development of the surrounding area of the regional office and the Lužická Nisa in the lower center of the regional city. The joint investment by the region and the city is expected to significantly transform this part of the city and allow access to the river, which is currently bordered by high banks. The Liberec Region has already started its part of the project with the first phase, which is the construction of a parking garage, said Deputy Governor Zbyněk Miklík (Pirates) to ČTK.
"We expect that the project will significantly improve the environment of the lower city center, creating a representative space around the Liberec Region. At the same time, we will allow people to access the water, and we anticipate a significant increase in the quality of stay in the city center for many age groups, from mothers with children to seniors," stated the city’s deputy mayor for architecture Jiří Janďourek (Mayors for the Liberec Region). He noted that the city plans to rehabilitate the small park and expand it into the area of the current parking lot, which they plan to eliminate upon completion of the parking garage.
The project addresses the revitalization of green spaces and the long-neglected surroundings of the regional office and the Nisa River. "The rehabilitation of the area around the regional office is one of the largest investment actions in the Liberec Region. I personally rank it just after the construction of the Emergency Medicine Center at the regional hospital. The cultivation of the lower city center is necessary, and I am glad that we can bring the project closer to the public. All citizens have the opportunity to come and ask the investors and architects about any interests they have regarding the project," said Miklík.
The city and region projects create a logical whole in the terrain. "They encompass the entire area of the park Na Rybníčku, paved areas leading to the riverbank and the entrance to the regional office building, greenery between the culture house and the headquarters of the Jizera Mountains Protected Landscape Area Management. The plan includes the removal of the footbridge over the Nisa River and the construction of a new one, the addition of public lighting, and suitable furnishings," described the scope of the project regional councilor for development Jiří Ulvr (Mayors for the Liberec Region).
The project also plans to open up access to the river and integrate it into the public space. The revitalized area will include a food stall and public toilets. The riverbank will consist of stair-like steps suitable for seating. The new park will respect the existing greenery where appropriate, additional trees will be planted, and a water feature will be added. The paved area will, according to Ulvr, be used as a square for festivities, markets, and similar events.
The public presentation of the project will take place on Tuesday, January 24, at 4:00 PM at the Liberec Business Incubator - Lipo.ink, located next to the regional office. It will include a guided walk through the locality.
