Třebíč - People in Třebíč today received the refurbished public spaces in Komenského náměstí. In addition to the new concrete pavement, there are relaxation zones with benches, new traffic lights, public lighting, and greenery; a new refreshment stand has also been created. In the spring, the revitalization is expected to continue with the renewal of the space by the passage to Karlovo náměstí. This was stated to journalists by the deputy mayor Vladimír Malý (ČSSD).

"We started the reconstruction of the square due to the necessary replacement of utility networks, which is related to the construction of the Podklášterský bridge," said Malý. Workers laid over 2000 square meters of new pavement on the surface of Komenského náměstí, 820 square meters of stone pavement, and 500 square meters of asphalt.

The costs of approximately 10.5 million crowns excluding VAT were paid by the city from its budget. At the same time, it requested a five million grant, a decision on which should be made by the end of the year.

The modification of the public space in Komenského náměstí is related to the following construction of the new Podklášterský bridge over the Jihlava River. An investment by the Vysočina Region of nearly 50 million crowns excluding VAT was necessitated by the poor technical condition of the bridge from 1930. The bridge has therefore been demolished and is being newly constructed. A traffic lane will be added to facilitate vehicle turns towards the square.

"The bridge is completely concreted; workers are working on anchoring the pedestrian walkways on both sides of the bridge, on the retaining walls, and on the gas bypass from the side of Žerotínovo náměstí," stated Malý. According to him, the work continues in accordance with the schedule, according to which the bridge should start serving motorists at the end of April next year.

The Podklášterský bridge leads to one of the key roads in the city with 36,800 inhabitants, which, thanks to its monuments listed on the UNESCO list, is also a significant tourist destination.
