Jihlava - The Vysočina Region today signed a memorandum of cooperation between the administrators of UNESCO sites in Třebíč. This was a response to the decision of the World Heritage Committee, which this year expanded the boundaries of the site to include the castle, which as a former monastery is directly adjacent to the Basilica of St. Procopius. The basilica, along with the Jewish quarter and the Jewish cemetery, has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2003.
The castle houses a museum established by the region. According to Deputy Governor Jana Fischerová (ODS), the memorandum is a declaration that the region wants to continue to participate in the promotion and care of Třebíč's monuments. In addition to the Vysočina Region, the memorandum was signed by representatives of Třebíč, the Roman Catholic Parish of Třebíč, and the Jewish Community of Brno.
The Třebíč Castle was created by the reconstruction of a Benedictine monastery in the 16th century. It is a national cultural monument. It has been serving museum purposes since 1957. It has been functioning as the Museum of Vysočina Třebíč since 2003.
Among the UNESCO sites in the Vysočina Region is also the historic center of Telč in the Jihlava area, which was added to the list in 1992. Two years later, the pilgrimage church of St. John Nepomuk on the Green Mountain in Žďár nad Sázavou was added to it. All three cities with UNESCO sites can apply for funds for their promotion from the Vysočina Fund. They can receive up to 500,000 CZK. Applications for the year 2019 will be accepted by the regional office in February.
