Plzeň - Loos's interiors in Plzeň could be listed next year on the European Heritage Label. In the national round regarding their nomination for the Czech Republic, a professional jury made the decision, said Helena Prokopová from the city’s contribution organization Plzeň - TURISMUS to ČTK. "She was convinced not only by the significance of the life and work of the world-renowned architect Adolf Loos but also by the testimonies illustrated through the personal stories of the former apartment owners, which showcase the value of the place in the context of European history and the preservation of shared European values such as freedom, democracy, and the respect for human rights," she stated. The interiors outperformed the competition from Karlštejn Castle and the Archdiocesan Museum in Olomouc. The national jury, which reached a unanimous decision, appreciated the quality of the application process, which presented the interiors not only as a tourist product but also as a place suitable for use in the fields of education and culture. The jury also recommended four out of five votes to submit the application of the Archdiocesan Museum in Olomouc for evaluation by the European panel. Whether either of the two nominated sites from the Czech Republic will actually receive the European Heritage designation will be decided in Brussels at the turn of the year by 13 independent experts appointed by the European Parliament, the European Council, the European Commission, and the Committee of the Regions. "The very fact of advancing from the national round underscores the significance and value that Loos's interiors hold within European history and the shared European cultural heritage. In addition to the first-class design of a pioneer of modern architecture, they represent testimonies about the tragic events in European history through which European nations had to pass, which we must continually remember," said Deputy Mayor Martin Baxa (ODS). The accessibility of Adolf Loos's realizations in Plzeň for individual tourists planned for the beginning of the tourist season is one of the key points of the program for the Plzeň - European Capital of Culture 2015 project. Plzeň - TURISMUS operates Loos's interiors at Bendova 10 and Klatovská 12 and also provides marketing support for the upcoming tour routes, collaborating with the owner of the Brummel House and in the future also with the West Bohemian Gallery in Plzeň. The European Heritage designation is intended for monuments that have played a significant role in the history of Europe or in the building of the EU, have symbolic value for Europe, and can help EU citizens gain insights into shared cultural heritage, history, democratic values, and human rights.
