Plzeň - The public in Plzeň will have the opportunity several times a year to peek into valuable interwar interiors designed by Vienna architect Adolf Loos. The city is preparing to sign a contract with the private owner of the building on Husova Street. The gradually restored interiors on the first floor of the private family house, which are mostly known only to experts, could be viewed by the public during international days of monuments, museums, and European heritage, said the head of the heritage department of the Plzeň City Hall, Petr Marovič, today to ČTK.

Loos is considered the most significant Central European architect of the first third of the 20th century and a co-founder of modern purist architecture worldwide. In Plzeň, he carried out one renovation of a house and 13 prestigious apartment interiors, not all of which have survived. The city owns several of them.
For now, people can see Loos's work only in one of the City Hall's buildings on Klatovská Street, where one of the city organizations is located. Last year, the town hall renovated two rooms here.
"Loos's interiors are one of Plzeň's greatest assets that could appeal to Europe as well. In the future, there could even be a kind of tour route for interested parties to these interiors," Marovič hopes. According to him, some of the apartments have preserved unique elements of design, for instance, in one building there is still a bathroom setup with a towel holder circulation.
According to the preservationist, the main thing is that Loos's work is already perceived as a great value. The apartments owned by the city will be kept by Plzeň. Marovič hopes that over time they could be used, for example, as the headquarters for city organizations or foundations with the possibility for the public to view them. The city hall is gradually renovating the interiors and grants are also contributing to their repair for private owners. For instance, the city is currently considering that a museum of General Patton, which has been operating in Plzeň for several years, could move into one of the buildings on Klatovská Street.
