May 25, 6:00 PM – 10:00 PM Ostrava Museum Night at Fiducia
6:00 PM Martin Strakoš: Architectural walk from the New Town Hall to the House of Culture of the City of Ostrava
Organized by the Antiquarian Bookstore and Fiducia Club. The meeting point for participants of the architectural walk will take place at Prokešovo Square in the center of Ostrava after the opening of the Ostrava Museum Night on Saturday, May 25, 2013, at 6:00 PM.
The walk will focus on the theme of public buildings in Ostrava dedicated to culture. The route will lead past the former Art Nouveau House of Catholic Apprentices by architect František Fiala (1878–1927), a student of Otto Wagner. Next, we will view the historicizing facade of the Jiří Myron Theatre, a remnant of the former National House based on a design by the Smíchov architect Josef Srba (1864–?). We will also focus on the last renovation of the aforementioned theatre from 1979–1986, designed by Ivo Klimeš with interiors by Radim Ulmann. Then we will head to the Antonín Dvořák Theatre, which reflects the complex development of architecture throughout the 20th century. The original historicizing structure by architect Alexander Graf (1856–1931) from 1905–1907 is currently covered by more recent interventions. We will briefly mention the nearby Puppet Theatre, where we were guests during the architectural walk as part of last year's Museum Night. We will walk past the House of Art, which has largely retained the appearance given to it by young architects František Fiala (1895–1957) and Vladimír Wallenfels (1895–1962) in the 1920s. We will also mention the Polish House building by Stanisław Bandrowski and the demolished German House by Felix Neumann (1860–1942). After crossing the Frýdlant Railway, we will head with those who show persistence to the House of Culture of the City of Ostrava from 1954–1961, designed by Jaroslav Fragner (1898–1967). After viewing the exterior and interior of the building, there will be a small surprise.
6:00 PM - 10:00 PM Museum Night Program at the Antiquarian Bookstore and Fiducia Club Museum workshop for children and their parents - Special museum workshop at the Antiquarian Bookstore and Fiducia Club, where we will create special festival waving flags featuring motifs of Ostrava landmarks. The workshop will be led by artist Marcela Lysáčková.
From 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM, both galleries and the antiquarian bookstore will also be open. Admission to all events is free.
