Prague - The construction company Metrostav has significantly reduced work on the construction of the new town hall in Palmovka, Prague 8. The reason is that the district is not reimbursing the company for invoices totaling about 200 million crowns. This was stated today by Metrostav spokesman František Polák. The construction of the new town hall is expected to cost around 1.1 billion crowns. The statement from Prague 8 is being sought by ČTK.
"We have significantly limited work on the construction, the district refuses to reimburse us for invoices," Polák told ČTK. No one has informed the company of the reason for non-payment.
However, according to the spokesman, Metrostav has not completely halted the construction and remains on site. "Ongoing work must be completed. The construction also needs to be protected, so we have not left the site. We are trying to resume discussions with the town hall," Polák said.
The construction of the center, costing more than 1.1 billion crowns, was approved by Prague 8 at the end of summer 2010. The actual construction began last April. The building is expected to cover an area of more than 16,000 m².
The plan for the construction was previously criticized by the then-opposition councilors, who labeled it "megalomaniacal." The current coalition of ANO, ČSSD, and the Green Party (governing with the support of the Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia) stated after the elections that they want to review the town hall construction along with other contracts.
