Prague - The representatives of Prague 8 today did not approve the assignment for the study of the future development of Palmovka. The opposition demanded that the assignment be discussed by the transport committee of the city district. Although the material was included in the meeting agenda, on the proposal of the opposition, it was then withdrawn from the already approved agenda by councilor Tomáš Hřebík (TOP 09 and STAN). Hřebík stated that the material would probably be presented again at the May meeting. Palmovka is among the so-called significant development centers and has been in poor condition for many years.
The study will address an area of 138 hectares around the Palmovka metro station on line B. According to the document discussed by the representatives, problems include, for example, the lack of rules for the development of buildings and public spaces, poor water management, and some parts of the area are simply neglected. There is also a lack of civic amenities.
In the western part of the area stands the unfinished Palmovka Center, which was intended to be the new headquarters of the city hall. Its construction was approved by Prague 8 in 2010, but it has not yet been completed, for example, due to disputes with builders. What will happen to the structure remains unclear.
During the approval of the program, the representatives initially included the document in the agenda. However, during the subsequent discussion on the study, the opposition representatives requested that the material not be approved and that it be discussed by the transportation committee of the eighth city district. After a short break, Hřebík complied with their request and withdrew the document.
