Mikulov – The leadership of Mikulov in the Břeclav region is preparing a project for the extensive restoration of the hill under the ruins of Kozí hrádek, which stands on one of the three rocky landmarks of the town. Based on the proposal from the BLÍŽKSOBĚ Foundation, access paths are to be restored, viewing points created, public toilets built, and new benches installed for a total of 32 million Czech crowns. Whether the work will take place this year will depend on whether the city can secure a grant from the Integrated Regional Operational Program Green Infrastructure, said city hall spokeswoman Markéta Ničová.
"If the grant is obtained, it would be the largest investment by the town in 2024. The entire project was initiated by the BLÍŽKSOBĚ Foundation of Martin Vohánka, which has committed to provide four million crowns if the city of Mikulov contributes the same amount. The remainder of the necessary sum is to be covered by the grant," Ničová stated.
The foundation submitted the project proposal back in 2019, and the city council and assembly approved the intention in the same year, as stated on the city's website. In 2020, work began on the project documentation for the building permit and in November 2021, the construction proceedings began along with the work on the construction execution documentation.
The city then awaited the announcement of the expected IROP call, which occurred last March, but applications for support can only be submitted from January 24 of this year.
If the grant is successfully obtained, the city will select a construction contractor in April. The project includes not only work on the paths, new plantings, viewpoints, public toilets, or benches but also the construction of water flushes and connection to the sewer system, which will regulate water runoff from the hill and mitigate erosion.
