Brno - The creators of the Moravian Science Center (MSC), which aims to present scientific knowledge to schoolchildren and the public in an entertaining way, hope that the exhibition will attract up to 220,000 visitors annually. If the plan succeeds, the science center will rank among the largest tourist attractions in southern Moravia. It will be located in pavilion D of the Brno Exhibition Center, with a total project cost of 630 million crowns. Its opening is expected in December 2014, said today to ČTK the deputy governor of the South Moravian Region, Václav Božek (ČSSD).
The Moravian Science Center is expected to rank among attractions such as the Punkva Caves in the Moravian Karst, which attract 200,000 tourists annually, Zoo Brno with around 250,000 visitors, and the Lednice Castle, which is visited by 320,000 people each year.
Božek reminded that the project will be fully funded by the EU. Its creator is the South Moravian Region, and the establishment of this facility, which presents science to all generations in a playful manner, primarily involves Masaryk University, the Brno University of Technology, the University of Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Sciences Brno, Mendel University in Brno, the Czech Academy of Sciences, and the Institute of Transport Research.
The displayed items will be organized within the facility over 4,600 square meters as part of a metaphorical river that incoming visitors will navigate. The exhibition will be divided into four main sections. They will focus on the planet, civilization, humanity, and the micro-world.
The exhibition is expected to be full of interesting effects. Its creators promise that visitors will be surprised at every turn. People will have navigational wristbands or boxes that change colors as they move through different parts of the exhibition.
Božek had previously stated that the project has several goals. The main one is the popularization of science, while others include maximizing the use of the Brno Exhibition Center and increasing interest in it.
