České Budějovice - Those interested in history can visit otherwise inaccessible historical sites, attend special events, or take advantage of discounted entry to castles and chateaus this upcoming weekend in South Bohemia. On the eve of the International Day of Monuments and Historic Sites, which falls on April 18, cities and municipalities, as well as the National Heritage Institute, offer these opportunities.
In České Budějovice, a total of 13 historical sites will be accessible for free on Saturday. "This includes the newly opened house at number seven in Česká Street, now the Horká vana club, and again, due to high public interest, the water tower," said Deputy Mayor Ivana Popelová (HOPB) to ČTK. From 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, people can take guided tours of the Český Krumlov Town Hall, the Bishop's Garden, the towers, the cross hall of the former Dominican monastery, and all churches.
At the castles and chateaus of the National Heritage Institute in South Bohemia, a reciprocal ticket will traditionally apply aside from Český Krumlov. Anyone who shows a ticket proving that they visited one of the historical sites on April 16 or 17 will gain free entry to one of the tour routes at another historical site. This applies to the castles and chateaus of Červená Lhota, Dačice, Hluboká, Jindřichův Hradec, Kratochvíle, Landštejn, Nové Hrady, Třeboň, Rožmberk, Zvíkov, and Zlatá Koruna.
In Červená Lhota, extraordinary tours of the former castle mill with a functioning historic hydroelectric power plant, which has been in private ownership since 1945, are prepared for visitors. The castle in Dačice will start its season on Saturday and offer newly installed exhibitions to the public. Residents of the former Dačice estate will have discounted entry. At Hluboká, entry to the tower will be free, as will in Jindřichův Hradec. Visitors will be able to take guided tours of the otherwise inaccessible cellars at the extensive ruins of Landštejn Castle. In Třeboni, an exhibition called Amarylis and an exhibition on Flowers and Birds await them.
A ticket to the Castle Museum in Český Krumlov will include free access to the tower. Free tours will also be available on the first route, but people must register in advance. Local residents will have free access to the Zlatá Koruna Monastery, where they will also learn about the progress of renovations in the monastery, and will attend a lecture on the Cistercians of Zlatá Koruna and water work. This year's theme for the International Day of Monuments and Historic Sites is Cultural Heritage of Water. More information can be found on the website www.npu-cb.eu.
