Washington - U.S. President Donald Trump will add a ballroom to the east wing of the White House for 200 million dollars (4.2 billion CZK). The hall, which will cover approximately 8,360 square meters, will accommodate 650 people. Construction will begin in September and will be funded by Trump along with unnamed donors. This was announced by White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt at a Thursday press conference, according to BBC.

Visualizations provided by the White House show that the new ballroom will architecturally resemble the rest of the building, featuring an opulent interior with chandeliers and decorative columns. As part of the project, the east wing of the presidential residence will also be renovated, which currently houses offices for First Lady Melania Trump and other key White House officials.

Trump has repeatedly promised in the past that he would build a beautiful ballroom in the White House. In 2016, he offered then-President Barack Obama 100 million dollars towards it, which Obama declined.

Many official events take place in the East Room of the White House, which accommodates approximately 200 people. According to Leavitt, the new ballroom will eliminate the need for a "large unsightly tent," which has previously been set up outside on the lawn during state dinners and other major events attended by world leaders.

Trump told NBC News that the project is being worked on by some of the best architects in the world. Completion is expected before the end of Trump's term in January 2029. The project was designed by McCrery Architects, Axios reported.

This will be the first structural modification of the presidential residence itself since the addition of the Truman Balcony in 1948, The Guardian noted. Since taking office in January, Trump has had the lawn of the Rose Garden paved, added gold elements to the Oval Office, and installed a pair of tall flagpoles on the north and south lawns of the White House, which fly enormous American flags.
