Brno - In Brno, in the area of Kamenný vrch, up to 35 houses with 550 apartments are expected to be built within the next ten years. The investment is estimated to be around one billion crowns, said city mayor's deputy Petr Hladík (KDU-ČSL) to journalists today. According to him, it is not yet clear how much the city would invest and how much a private entity might contribute. There could also be more than a hundred family houses in the area, Hladík added.

Kamenný vrch is one of the fundamental development areas for housing in Brno. The council included it in the strategic projects at today's meeting. "The goal is to expand the city's housing stock and improve the availability of housing. Up to 35 apartment buildings could be built on Kamenný vrch. Some would function as multi-purpose. There would also be a kindergarten and spaces for commercial areas," Hladík stated.

The location is situated in the southeast of the city district Brno-Nový Lískovec above Petra Křivky Street and partially in the cadastral areas of the city districts of Bosonohy and Kohoutovice. According to Hladík, the area is well accessible and has connections to the city center via public transport. The construction plan will also address car traffic and public transport. The trolleybus will serve the current loop in Nový Lískovec or the newly emerging hub in Bohunice.

Preparations will start in January next year. The actual construction should begin in 2019. The anticipated completion is in 2026. "The area is designated for development, but it has not been successfully built upon for a long time. We have now come up with the step to create a strategic project including connections to public transport. We want to bring everything to the stage of readiness and then address what Brno will construct from this," Hladík added.

Brno currently owns nearly 30,000 apartments.
