Brno – Brno is looking for designers for the construction of apartments in the Kamenný vrch area. In five years, there should be 350 apartments there, said Jiří Oliva (ČSSD), the deputy mayor, to reporters today. The estimated costs are 1.75 billion crowns. The apartments are intended primarily for cooperative housing.

Brno has announced a tender for a designer and author supervision. Initially, the city planned to build 300 apartments, which were to serve seniors, as starter homes for young families, and part as cooperative housing. However, the city has now decided that the apartments will be cooperative with the possibility of allocating 30 apartments for seniors, if the city district expresses interest. Oliva told ČTK that the reasons are financial and also due to the large number of applicants for cooperative housing. A total of 500 people expressed interest.

The city has also abandoned the originally planned construction of 25 family houses along the northern border of the area. They will be replaced by low-rise apartment buildings. This will increase the capacity of apartments from 300 to 350. "Cooperative housing is an alternative to developer construction; the cooperative does not build for profit but to meet housing needs. Moreover, the loan will be taken out by the cooperative, which is another advantage for cooperators," stated Oliva. According to him, cooperative construction is also cheaper and more accessible than developer construction.

The construction in the Kamenný vrch area above Petra Křivky Street is divided into two phases. The planned 350 apartments are the first phase. It can be carried out based on measures for managing rainwater, so as not to burden the existing sewerage. "Therefore, extensive green roofs, infiltration grids in the surfaces of communication sections, and retention tanks by the apartment buildings and along the roads will be built," said Radka Loukotová from the city's press department. There are also considerations for park modifications that would capture water for greenery. The second phase is conditional on the expansion of the existing rainwater sewerage for about 30 million.
