MOST - The HUTS company, which will build a commercial shopping center in the space of the Most I. Square, is also planning to construct up to 100 new apartments. The apartment building will replace the originally planned hotel. The company has reassessed its intention as a new tenant is currently investing in the refurbishment and modernization of the large-capacity Cascade hotel, said Most Mayor Vladimír Bártl to ČTK.

Work on the reconstruction of the square is expected to begin in June or July of next year, with a new look projected to be completed in another three years. The study for the development of the square includes not only commercially oriented buildings and the apartment house but also two-story underground garages with a total capacity of 350 spaces. An entertainment and fitness center is also planned. HUTS estimates the costs to be at least 650 million crowns.
"Construction will initially require patience and tolerance from the residents. Especially due to the garages, a large amount of earth will need to be excavated and removed by trucks from the city center. Moreover, we have lost two important bridges over the road corridor, and their repair will continue until the end of next year. The already complicated traffic situation will thus become even more acute," Bártl noted.
In February, the architectural development proposal for the square will be presented to both the councilors and the public, while the council has already approved the concept. "We were concerned that there was not enough space towards the square for potential gardens and outdoor seating for cafes and restaurants. However, the designer was limited by the road from the magistrate towards the commercial center Rozkvět. We therefore agreed that the final version of the project can also take this into account," Bártl added.
The HUTS company, which has capital from the Middle East and France, was preferred by the councilors over the German investor represented by City Galerie Most.
The historic core of Most, with its three squares, gave way in the 1970s to brown coal mining. The new development did not include the construction of the square according to the projectors.
