Karlovy Vary - The repair of the Karlovy Vary Imperial Baths will continue this year with the reconstruction of another part of the roof for 3.5 million korunas. The Karlovy Vary region continues in gradual steps towards the preservation of this valuable monument. Part of the funds will come directly from the region's budget, while 2.5 million for the repairs will be provided by the Ministry of Culture, said Deputy Governor Petr Zahradníček (TOP 09) to ČTK today.

"In the case of the Imperial Baths, we are continuing repairs that we started last year. Last year, we approved the scope of repairs for a three-year period and the winning company Bolid M. We completed the repair of the left dome, including the roofing, at a cost of about three million korunas. This year, the next stage of the roof repair will continue, this time repairing the right dome, the central part, and restoration elements," said Zahradníček.

The most necessary repairs of the monument will require approximately ten million korunas over three years. This amount is intended to ensure at least basic conservation of the Imperial Baths until funding can be secured for their complete repair.

"The overall reconstruction will cost at least 600 million korunas. We currently have a commitment from the Ministry of Culture for 100 million korunas and from the Ministry of Finance for 200 million korunas, but it is still just a promise," said Zahradníček. The remaining funds should be provided by the region and the city of Karlovy Vary. The anticipated start date for the reconstruction was estimated last December for this year, but it seems it will be postponed again.

The national cultural monument, which is among the most famous buildings in Karlovy Vary, has been waiting for repairs for years. The region aimed to address the repair of the building by architects Ferdinand Fellner and Hermann Helmer with the help of grants from the expiring Regional Operational Program Northwest and the Ministry of Culture. However, the region did not secure them, so discussions began on obtaining funds for a cheaper variant.
