Karlovy Vary - The Karlovy Vary Region has completed the repair of the roof of the Imperial Baths in Karlovy Vary. The valuable and monumentally protected building had a damaged dome above the Zander Hall. The repair is expected to prevent further damage to the building and its interiors, regional councilor Eva Valjentová (KSČM) told journalists today. The region received a grant for the roof repairs from the program for the preservation of architectural heritage of the Ministry of Culture. "The reconstruction costs were 2.9 million crowns. The region then contributed 400,000 crowns for purchasing slate for the roof," Valjentová stated. The repair of the dome and restoration work on the decorative elements on the roof took about four months and was completed in December. The Karlovy Vary Region is preparing a comprehensive reconstruction of the Imperial Baths. "We have already submitted an application for a grant of 250 million crowns from the Integrated Operational Program of the Ministry of Culture. We should receive another grant of 150 million crowns from the Regional Operational Program. However, the grant from this program is conditional on receiving a grant from the Ministry of Culture," Valjentová specified. The total costs have been estimated in the project at up to 900 million. However, the region believes that it will be possible to achieve a significantly lower final price in the tender for the contractor. If the grants are obtained, work on the rescue of the Imperial Baths could begin later this year.
