Liberec - The Liberec Region received six offers for the construction of a waterfront near its headquarters, which will now be assessed, said the spokesman for the regional office, Filip Trdla, to ČTK today. The construction costs were estimated by the designers at nearly 160 million crowns, which was also the maximum allowable price that, according to the spokesman, almost all bidders adhered to. The construction is part of a billion-dollar project to cultivate the lower center of Liberec, which began in 2014 when the region purchased buildings and land next to its headquarters from VÚTS (formerly the Research Institute of Textile Machinery).

The construction of the waterfront at the Lužická Nisa River and the cultivation of the surroundings of the regional office follows the first phase, which includes a parking house for 244 cars, expected to be operational at the beginning of next year. "The construction of the waterfront should take 330 days, which is the maximum, meaning 11 months. The evaluation criterion is price," added Deputy Governor Zbyněk Miklík (Pirates). A fundamental transformation is expected for the areas around the regional office, which currently serve as a parking lot. "There will be a park, it will include refreshments, public toilets, there will be a bridge over the Lužická Nisa and a new entrance to the regional office," he added.

A children's playground and a water feature will also be added. "The only structure that is 'emerging from the ground' is the refreshments stand. It is a wooden structure with a public toilet clad in corrugated metal. The main thing, however, is the descent to the Nisa, which was the most demanding part of the preparation. It will allow visitors to step down to the river and dip their feet in the water. A tree will grow there to create a pleasant climate," said David Pavlišta, one of the project's co-authors from the studio re: architects, earlier about the project. The city of Liberec is also expected to follow with its part of the project with modifications on the left side from the flow perspective.

The Liberec Region began the reclamation of this part of the city in 2014 when it purchased the area with land and buildings of more than 11,000 square meters around its headquarters from VÚTS for 125 million crowns. The region has already invested another half a billion crowns into the reconstruction of the former administrative building into the European House and the renovation of the former workshops, which today house, among other things, a business incubator or an archive. The parking house and waterfront will cost the region nearly an additional 400 million crowns, part of which will be covered by European grants.
