Slavkov u Brna - The wooden Chinese pavilion in the castle park in Slavkov u Brna in Vyškov region received its final coat of paint in recent days. Along with the construction of the replica pavilion, the repair of the 400-meter-long baroque wall is also coming to an end. The construction costs totaled 60 million crowns. Veronika Slámová, spokeswoman for the Slavkov town hall, informed ČTK.

"The repair of the baroque wall will be completed in May. This project also includes the construction of a replica of the Chinese pavilion in the lower part of the park. It is currently receiving a fresh coat of paint and will soon be accessible for pleasant moments and wedding ceremonies," Slámová stated.

The baroque castle wall was damaged by a flood ten years ago. In 2017, the city managed to secure funding for its complicated repair from the Integrated Operational Programme. The repair of the wall cost 58 million crowns. The builders stabilized the masonry with vertical and inclined micropiles and a reinforced concrete frame.

The wall could not be demolished and rebuilt, as it is a protected monument, so it needed to be preserved and secured statically in its original position and form.

Two million of the budget was used for the production of the replica of the wooden Chinese pavilion. "The pavilion from the 1780s is the only one built entirely of wood in the Czech Republic, making it one of the unique monuments. Although there were attempts to save it in the 1990s, unfortunately, they were not completed," stated the castle historian Vladimíra Zichová.

However, the original wooden structure was in very poor condition and had to be demolished. A precise replica has now been built in its place.

Another expensive reconstruction - the repair of the castle ramparts - was also completed in Slavkov in April. It included the construction of an elevator to the exhibition and the installation of new lighting for the castle.
