Prague - The Museum of the City of Prague will tonight open the newly reconstructed Baroque Clam-Gallas Palace in the center of Prague. Visitors can expect a supporting program. The museum announced this in a press release. The venue will open to visitors in the evening as part of the Festival of Museum Nights, which takes place throughout the Czech Republic from May 19 to June 16, with the national launch in Olomouc. This year, the Prague Museum Night will not take place in the capital, but some museums and institutions will join the Festival of Museum Nights with their programs.
The 1st Faculty of Medicine of Charles University will also participate in the festival in the capital. From 7:00 PM today, it will be possible to visit the anatomical museum, dental museum, and Faust's House. Before the guided tours begin, a lecture afternoon will take place in the Anatomical Institute of the 1st Faculty of Medicine starting at 4:00 PM, including a lecture on the skeletal remains of Charles IV.
The faculty will make the Museum of Normal and Comparative Anatomy in the Anatomical Institute accessible to visitors, where they can see a restored whale skeleton, which remarkably preserves some soft tissues. Exhibits of animals that are already extinct or are threatened with extinction, as well as preparations of various organs of the human body, will also be on display. The Jan Jesenský Dental Museum at the Dental Clinic will offer a unique range of exhibits, including a large comparative anatomical collection of teeth and skulls. The school opens places that are not typically available to the general public.
The Clam-Gallas Palace, a palace complex at the corner of Husova Street and Mariánské Square, will be open to the public from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Tours will be individual, without a guide. Visitors will be able to freely explore the entire representative floor of the palace, whose ceilings are adorned with frescoes by Italian artist Carlo Carlone. The palace, built according to the design of the prominent Viennese architect Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach in the first third of the 18th century, is considered by the museum to be a splendid example of High Baroque ostentation, wealth, and the high life aspirations of the then aristocracy.
In addition to the tour itself, a supporting program will also be prepared for visitors to the Clam-Gallas Palace tonight. The exhibition Star Gazers and Sleepers will showcase the work of glass sculptor Martin Janecký as a demonstration of contemporary inspiration from Baroque. The installation Language of Flowers will show the artistic use of flower symbolism, and The Scent of Baroque will present ingredients from preserved historical recipes. People will also be able to listen to famous compositions from the past performed by a trumpet ensemble.
