Prague - The Prague City Hall will announce a public tender for the supply of furniture for the baroque Clam-Gallas Palace, which is currently undergoing reconstruction. The company that wins the tender will be tasked, among other things, with restoring the original decorations of the palace's walls and ceilings, as well as furnishing the interior spaces, including the entrance reception. The city estimates the value of the contract to be about 19.89 million crowns excluding VAT. The city's councilors approved the announcement of the tender today.

The reconstruction of the palace, which is owned by Prague, began in 2018 and is expected to be completed this year. In the building located in the city center, the Prague City Hall plans to establish an exhibition of the Museum of the Capital City of Prague focused on the baroque period and 18th-century composers.

The palace will host exhibition spaces that will be allocated to the Museum of the Capital City and a restaurant with a café. The new center for baroque art will offer visitors, among other things, an exhibition focused on composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, announced Prague councilor Hana Třeštíková (Prague Together).

Mozart is often associated with the palace due to its ties to the Gallas family. Musicologist Marc Niubò previously stated that, however, there is no evidence that the composer ever visited the building.

The revitalization of the palace on Husova Street, aimed at making the building accessible to the public, is overseen by the company Subterra. According to the contract from 2018, Prague pays the company about 416 million crowns for the construction work. Compared to the original schedule, the work has been delayed, for example, due to the need to remove asbestos, which the builders had not anticipated. It is expected to be completed this year.

The design of how the interior spaces of the now restored baroque palace will be furnished was proposed by the company Arpema, led by architect Petr Malinský. The cost for the implementation of the interiors, according to the project documentation, was subsequently estimated by the company at about 24 million crowns.

The current high baroque form of the palace was created in the early 18th century by builder Tomáš Haffenecker based on the design of Vienna's court architect Johann Bernard Fischer von Erlach for Count Jan Václav Gallas. According to experts, it is one of the best-preserved noble city palaces in the world.
