The richest Pole wants to buy a village in the south of the country

Warsaw - The richest Pole, Grażyna Kulczyk, the ex-wife of billionaire Jan Kulczyk, is interested in buying a village. The small uninhabited village of Rogóżka near the Polish-Czech border in the Kłodzko district spans 100 hectares, and the imaginative entrepreneur wants to create a cultural center there for hosting outdoor opera festivals.
    The village is being sold by the councilors of the center municipality of Stronie Śląskie. The starting price is 13 million zlotys (over 96 million crowns). The auction is planned for mid-September. One of the attractions is that the new owner can rename the village, possibly giving it their own surname.
    The mayor of the central municipality, Zbigniew Lopusiewicz, explained that the village has been deserted for over 30 years, so there is no need to hold a referendum on the matter. "Rogóżka offers not only the possibility of naming it after oneself but also beautiful surroundings and breathtaking views of the hills and rocks,” added Lopusiewicz.
    The village was founded over 500 years ago. Its inhabitants were mainly Germans, who were expelled after World War II. However, Poles did not flock to the remote village, where winters were harsh and summers short. Those who came left after a few years, and eventually the village became deserted.
    A new owner could revive it. Many people would like it to be Kulczyk, who successfully transformed an old brewery in Poznań into a commercial and entertainment center. She practically turned a ruin into the most interesting shopping complex in Poland, which also features a huge art gallery. The building has an area of 130,000 square meters, while appearing very appealing. The International Council of Shopping Centers awarded the property as the best shopping center in the world in the medium-sized category in 2005.
