Olomouc - The new academic year has been launched by the Faculty of Science of Palacký University in Olomouc in the old buildings. The new building costing 1.2 billion crowns is delayed due to poor financial flows from the state budget. The relocation of scientists can be expected only before the summer semester, said the dean Juraj Ševčík to ČTK. A new building for the Faculty of Science is being constructed on 17th November Avenue at Envelopa. Students, teachers, and scientists from four addresses in the city are expected to move there. "Currently, tenders are announced for the supply of furniture, furnishings, and laboratory equipment," stated Ševčík. He expects the construction to be completed by the end of the year. "We would like to finish the move before the summer semester. This concerns, for example, mathematicians from Hejčín, chemists from Křížkovská Street and Třída Svobody. The dean's office will remain with the faculty and four departments will also stay there," added Ševčík. According to the dean, it is already clear that the new building is small. "The project was created in the 90s, today we have double the number of students, more study programs, and also more employees. If we summed up all the current areas, they would be larger than the area of the new building," said Ševčík. The faculty wants to keep the center for biological sciences in Holice, which is expected to expand over time. Approximately 3000 students study natural sciences in Olomouc. The entire UP has eight faculties and approximately 22,000 students.
