Newly built elementary school in Kolovraty (Hlaváček & Partner architectural studio, project 2021)
Prague – The new elementary school for Prague's Kolovraty will be built for approximately 294.9 million crowns excluding VAT by the construction company Syner. ČTK learned this from the public procurement bulletin. The city district successfully achieved a price about one third lower than expected in the tender. Kolovraty is a smaller city district on the southeastern edge of the metropolis with about 3,700 inhabitants.
According to the tender documents, the school will have 19 standard classrooms and a capacity of 510 students. The city council wants to increase the capacity of the first stage from 180 to 270 children compared to the originally planned project. There are also plans for a cafeteria, after-school care, and a gym. The city district intends to start construction later this year according to previous information, with completion expected in 2026.
Kolovraty will obtain the funds for the construction of the new school from the city hall, as previously reported, with the representatives recently approving the allocation of the first 75 million crowns. Currently, the Kolovraty school is spread out over several buildings; the construction of a new one has been discussed in the city district for some time. Meanwhile, the local council has started addressing the absence of classes for sixth to ninth-grade students by constructing two wooden pavilions, the latest of which was completed in 2022.
The Prague city hall plans to collaborate with local councils to construct additional schools on the outskirts as well as in more central parts of the metropolis. Construction began in September two years ago on an elementary school in Šeberov for approximately 477 million crowns, which is expected to be completed next year. According to previous information, additional schools are planned to be built in Březiněves, Dolní Měcholupy, Lipence, Újezd, Komořany, and Uhříněves. Construction is also being prepared by Prague 3, 5, 7, and 8. Prague 9 completed the new elementary and kindergarten school Elektra last year.
City and council leadership demand that the state contribute to the expansion of educational infrastructure in the metropolis, with Prime Minister Petr Fiala (ODS) stating recently that the government will negotiate support.
