Zlín - A new television documentary titled Zlín - City in the Gardens maps the architecture of Zlín, its buildings, and the personalities that contributed to the city's appearance and development. It is the result of a collaboration between the city and Czech Television, announced today by the spokesperson of the Zlín city hall, Tomáš Melzer. The script was written by Ladislava Horňáková and Pavel Jandourek, who is also the director. The tour of the city will be led by Jan Šťastný, a native of Zlín and actor.

"The hour-long documentary showcases the currently uncharted architecture of Zlín through colorful stories of individual villa buildings, each representing a different period in history and architecture. The program also emphasizes the personal stories of people whose fates and often surprising life stories transformed the urban face of Zlín in the last century," said the spokesperson.

In addition to a prologue and epilogue, the documentary is divided into three parts, guiding the viewer through the appearance of Zlín before the arrival of the Baťa brothers, through the period of functionalism, to the post-war development. "The authors of the documentary have connected the architecture and history of this unique city in clear contexts and revealed that Zlín is the largest urban entity on an international scale built on the principles of garden cities. Colorful and often very thrilling stories of houses and their inhabitants uncover not only the logic of the local architecture but also the history of this specific city. Last but not least, it reveals not only the fact that Zlín is the second largest monument-protected area in the Czech Republic after Prague but also that it is the largest preserved garden city in the world," stated the spokesperson. The television premiere of the documentary will take place in the fall, and the film was recently presented at the Zlín film festival.

"The city of Zlín has long aimed to preserve and further develop the local traditional creative industry of audiovisual production. Whether through providing support from the City Film Fund or direct participation in the creation of audiovisual works, for example, through co-production agreements for feature films being made in Zlín. The result of one such form of collaboration is also the new documentary film by Czech Television, Ostrava Television Studio, Zlín - City in the Gardens. I believe that the documentary will captivate viewers from various parts of the Czech Republic with its extraordinary description of the local genius loci and motivate them to personally visit Zlín," stated Zlín Mayor Jiří Korec.
