The object of the Dejvice Theatre in Prague 6 is set to undergo an expansion

Prague - The object of the Dejvické Theater in Prague 6 is set to undergo an expansion. Among other things, the capacity of the auditorium is expected to increase by up to 50 seats. The design work for the planned extension of the theater and the reconstruction of the existing spaces is being carried out by the firm Šafer Hájek architekti (SHA). This is indicated by a resolution from the local municipal council, which approved the assignment of a public contract, and by statements from Prague 6 councilor Zdeněk Hořánek (STAN). The municipal district of Prague 6 is the founder of the Dejvické Theater.

"It has been decided to expand (the Dejvické Theater) into the basement,” said Hořánek, who is responsible for investments in Prague 6. The project documentation for the theater expansion is currently being prepared by architects from the SHA studio, who are expected to deliver the documentation and related engineering services for 2.4 million koruna. The complete estimated cost of the reconstruction is not stated in the resolution.

The company was contacted directly by the city council. According to the council, one of the reasons is that the studio has been collaborating on the development of the Dejvické Theater since 1999.

According to the explanatory report accompanying the resolution from the Prague 6 councilors, the plan includes an extension of the theater building on Zelená Street into the courtyard. The stage will be moved into the newly added part, which will allow for an increase in the auditorium's capacity. The current capacity of the hall is about 150 seats, and it could accommodate up to 50 more seats in the newly configured chamber theater hall. The reconstruction should also take into account the increase in the number of audience members with regard to social facilities in the theater. There should also be a new machinery room and HVAC system.

The first contract for the reconstruction and development of the Dejvické Theater at the building on Zelená Street was awarded to SHA by Prague 6 based on a public tender in 1999. According to the architects' plan, the reconstruction of the theater took place at the turn of 2000 and 2001. The SHA studio also continued to collaborate on the reconstruction of the spaces known as Anti.kvariát, which joined the Dejvické Theater in 2014, on the revitalization of the space in front of the theater building, and on other modifications to the property.

The Dejvické Theater (DD) has been active in the Czech scene for 30 years, with its first performance taking place on October 14, 1992. DD has held the status of a professional theater since 1993. DD has consistently had one of the highest attendance rates expressed as a percentage. According to the theater's annual report for 2020, 11,835 viewers attended live performances at its own stage, achieving 100 percent attendance. DD has been awarded several times as Theater of the Year in the Theater Critics' Awards, and its productions have also received accolades.
