The award-winning Kladno bridge is made of a special strong concrete

Kladno – The awarded Kladno footbridge over the Dřetovický stream is made of a special super strong concrete. It received the Czech Architecture Award along with five other projects, reported today ČTK spokesperson of the Kladno city hall Lucie Steinerová. The main winners of the competition were Petr Stolín and Alena Mičeková, according to whose design a kindergarten was built in Nová Ruda on the outskirts of Liberec. The awards were presented on Thursday in Prague.

The footbridge is located in the Kladno part of Vrapice on the pedestrian path to the cemetery; the original footbridge was swept away by floods a few years ago. The preparation for the new bridge began in 2016, and it was installed last year. It is designed so that in case of rising water levels, it does not block the stream's channel. The authors are architects Ondřej Císler and Petr Tej from the Prague office Aoc architekti, with co-author Czech sculptor, painter, restorer, curator, and university lecturer Jan Hendrych.

"For Kladno, this recognition is a reminder that quality architecture has a place in Kladno, and I believe that in time, there will be more awarded projects in the city," stated Kladno city council member and development committee chair Anna Gamanová.

The static solution, material technology, and manufacturing were designed by scientists from the Klokner Institute of the Czech Technical University. At the footbridge stands the sculpture Guardian of the Footbridge from the studio of Jan Hendrych. Kladno secured the purchase of the land, part of which was donated, paid for the design, transport, laying, and anchoring of the footbridge, including construction supervision. The contracting company donated the footbridge to Kladno.
