Brno - The ODS in Brno has created a petition against the proposed exchange of five properties in the center of Brno for real estate that obstructs the construction of a new football stadium in Lužánky. This was stated to journalists today by the chairman of the Brno civic democrats, Robert Kerndl. The city cannot build a stadium for two billion until it acquires the properties of entrepreneur Libor Procházka. According to Kerndl, the petition has been supported by well-known personalities such as writer Milan Uhde. As the owner, Brno is having its properties appraised, offering, for example, a covered market in Zelný trh or the House of Lords of Kunštát.
Procházka has a tennis hall and underground garages and roads on the city land. The city has been trying to negotiate with him for a longer time. It lost a lawsuit regarding the use of the properties as a parking lot or road and has to pay millions. Another lawsuit is threatening the city. Procházka's property is valued at about a quarter of a billion.
Brno originally considered exchanging nine apartment buildings, but due to resistance from residents, it selected another five properties. According to representatives of this party, the ODS has opposed the exchange for a long time. They initiated the petition due to the five buildings. "From our perspective, the city is not in such a disadvantageous position that it should be pushed into selling this family silver," emphasized Kerndl. The market at Zelný trh was recently reconstructed by the city district for almost 80 million, and the House of Lords of Kunštát is considered by Kerndl to be one of the three preserved Renaissance monuments in the center of Brno. ODS also considers the remaining three buildings significant.
The petition has been supported, in addition to Kerndl and his party colleague Markéta Vaňková and Uhde, by historians Jiří Hanuš and Jiří Pernes, as well as architect Petr Pelčák and neurologist Ivan Rektor. Anyone can join on the website of the Brno ODS.
Procházka demands properties in exchange for properties, which is the reason why the city is searching for suitable houses instead of a financial settlement. Brno is having appraisals done on the value of the five buildings, to know whether it will have to compensate Procházka, the prices will be the same, or whether the entrepreneur has to pay the difference. Based on this, it will decide whether to exchange the buildings. The appraisals should be finished in February.
The stadium for two billion is to be built on the site of the old stadium. Zbrojovka, which won a title there in the past, left it at the beginning of the millennium and it has been deteriorating since then. The new stadium is to have 30,000 seats.
