Brno - The vicinity of the Cathedral of St. Peter and Paul on Petrov has been renovated. During the works costing almost 20 million crowns, a statue of an angel, a spring, and three stops with poems on stone tablets were added there. The stairs, walls in Denis Gardens, and some sidewalks have also been repaired. The area around the cathedral and the adjacent gardens are a popular walking place for tourists and locals and now look representative, said Mayor Roman Onderka (ČSSD) to reporters today. The new feature in the vicinity of Brno's landmark will also be traffic restrictions, where only owners of a special chip will be allowed to drive and park. "The whole space has brightened up. I take great pleasure from it," said Jiří Mikulášek, the General Vicar of the Diocese of Brno, to ČTK. According to him, in the future, a statue of Cyril and Methodius will also be added to the space next to the cathedral. The project was authored by the Brno studio Raw together with the Tišnovka studio. According to architect Tomáš Rusín, the goal was to create a romantic nook, of which Brno, in his opinion, does not have many. "We tried to incorporate stops into the space that would help people find their way here. There are three stops, and they consist of poems by significant Brno poets," he described the surroundings of the cathedral. According to him, the space offers a pleasant place for walks and views of the cathedral from various angles. The Brno City Hall also had another popular spot in the city center repaired, the parks beneath Špilberk Castle. The area, after reconstruction costing 78.4 million crowns, is intended to evoke the atmosphere of the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. It opened to the public in the first half of November.
