Třebíč - The second phase of the reconstruction of the heritage-listed building with changing rooms of the former river spa Polanka is continuing in Třebíč. The wooden building from 1934 was designed by architect Bohuslav Fuchs. The first phase, costing nearly 880,000 CZK excluding VAT, began last year, and this year's value of the work will be nearly double. The majority of the repairs are financed by a grant from the Ministry of Culture. Next year, all coatings will be removed from the building, and the wooden structure will receive new colors. Irini Martakidisová, spokesperson for the city hall, said this today.

Last year's phase of reconstruction mainly involved the replacement of damaged load-bearing columns and beams in the outer parts of the wooden structure. This year, craftsmen have removed damaged foundation thresholds under the wooden changing rooms, replaced damaged internal parts of the wooden structures, stair stringers, railings, and some deck flooring.

In addition to the spa building itself, the slope at the back of the site will be modified to prevent rainwater from undermining the stone part of the building. The city also had a restoration survey conducted to assess the color scheme, according to which the colors were muted in the past.

The River Spa Polanka was established on the former Valdštejn meadow on the Podklášterská side of the Jihlava River, accommodating up to 1200 people. It was officially opened to the public on May 27, 1934. At the end of the 1970s, a swimming complex was built in this location. Today, in addition to pools, there is a diving tower, a water slide, and several playgrounds. The city swimming pool is operated by the Laguna association of Yashica and TTS energo companies. Approximately 30,000 people swim at Polanka each year.
