Ostrava - The city of Ostrava wants to develop the gap near the Church of St. Wenceslas, which is the oldest cultural heritage site in the area of the city. It plans to announce a development competition for the lucrative land located not far from the central Masaryk Square. It intends to proceed in the same manner as when searching for an investor for the area of the former Karolina coke plant. Ostrava's mayor Aleš Zedník (ČSSD) said this to journalists today. The unfinished part of the block of houses is located between Kostelní, Střelniční, Pivovarská, and Kostelní Square streets. The gap has existed in this central part of the city for several years. These plots were originally built on, and the gap was created by the demolition of old dilapidated buildings. Although there have already been several proposals for the use of the area, the space has not yet been developed. The place has served, for example, as a market and is now a paid parking lot. "The city is an urbanized space, and where bombs fell during the war or where the teeth of time have taken their toll, there is no reason to create gaps," Zedník believes. He added that the system of development competition has already proven successful for the city in the decision-making regarding Karolina, and therefore it has decided to use it again. "We will be surprised by what the competitors come up with. The function of the city is varied; it is a mixture of housing, commercial, and office spaces. Everything must be in some kind of harmony," Zedník noted. According to him, just like in the case of Karolina, the city would like to offer the plots to investors at a fixed price. The development competition is expected to start this October, and interested parties will be able to submit their proposals until January 19 of next year. The evaluation of the competition is planned for the end of March.
