Island - The city of Ostrov in Karlovy Vary region is still considering the vision of operating a city hotel with a restaurant and a microbrewery in the former hotel Myslivna. Although the establishment of a municipal company Hotel U Zámku was not approved by the councilors in January, the city leadership wants to explore other ways to resolve the operation of the hotel. They will also take inspiration from other cities that have a similar intention, said Ostrov's deputy mayor Libor Bílek (independent) to reporters today.

“We will also go to the town of Přeštice, which is also building a restaurant and brewery. We will inquire about their findings and how they organized and reconstructed it,”
said Bílek. According to him, the city also wants to have a legal interpretation done.

By verifying the procedure with the city lawyer, the Ostrov leadership aims to rule out the possibility that councilors could be prosecuted for establishing the municipal company. Councilor and lawyer Petr Šindelář (ODS) warned about this possibility due to the potential establishment of a Ltd. Hotel U Zámku at the January council meeting.

In the building of the former hotel located in the city’s heritage zone next to the Ostrov castle, the first construction modifications have already begun for connecting to the sewer and other engineering networks. However, the main part of the reconstruction does not yet have completed project documentation. Originally, the city wanted to open the hotel already this October, and brewing was to start in July. “It is already certain that this deadline will not be met. Now we are not really pressed for time,” said Bílek.

The unused hotel Myslivna was purchased by the city a year ago for ten million crowns with the intention of building a four-star hotel with a restaurant and microbrewery. Ostrov was to cooperate with the Westbohemia Hotels chain on its reconstruction and operation through the municipal company. However, one vote was missing in the council for the establishment of the new company. The opposition argued, among other things, that the city’s entry into business would burden its budget and distort the market.

On social media, discussions have already begun about other variants for the use of the building, such as the establishment of another home for the elderly, apartments, or offices. However, the city has not yet seriously considered any of these options.
