From next Monday through the end of October, residents of Brno can visit an exhibition showcasing the successful projects of the young generation of architects who excelled in the Young Architect Award competition, subtitled “Pain Points of Cities and Towns”. This year, young authors reflected on solutions to serious architectural urban issues. A total of 72 projects were submitted, from which the jury of professional architects selected 14 finalists. The winners were announced during the international construction fair FOR ARCH in September. The best works will be seen by the residents of Brno
The public can get acquainted with the original ideas of talented architects at the traveling exhibition, which starts on Monday, October 7th, with the participation of Brno's mayor, Roman Onderka. Several works addressing the specific issues of Brno, particularly the revitalization of the unused waterfront of the Svratka river, will be on display. Among them is one of the awarded projects designed by graduates of the FA VUT in Brno, Martin Machala and Jana Matlovičová. “The Svratka in Brno is perceived as a canal, instead of a fully-fledged recreational waterfront and green corridor,” the authors state regarding the core idea of their project and add, “The connection between the city and the river must be as diverse as possible to increase and attract movement in the area. We are, of course, creating spaces for activities on the water and on its banks.” The revitalization of the banks of the Svratka river in Brno was also addressed by other competitors, including Kateřina Čadková, Tomáš Popelínský (Faculty of Horticulture, Mendel University in Brno), or Petr Janáč and Tereza Hynková (FA VUT in Brno). Other works dedicated to the Moravian metropolis addressed, for example, the utilization of spaces in the former industrial area of Zbrojovka Brno.
