Pardubice - Pardubice will soon lose their bus station. The new owner of the land has other plans for the area. The city and the region must find another location before a bus terminal for public transport is created at the train station. This was stated by the governor Martin Netolický (ČSSD) to ČTK.

"The owner of the land under the existing bus station near the city center informed us about his development plans, which logically do not include the bus stops," Netolický said.

According to Deputy Mayor Helena Dvořáčková (ANO), one of the companies of entrepreneur Jaroslav Strnad bought the land. There is no record of this yet in the land registry. The representatives she spoke to did not provide any further details about the development intentions or timelines. The businessman already owns the former distillery and the mentioned bus station, both located in the city center.

"The area is not yet consolidated. There is a petrol station, one private and one municipal plot of land. We are not rejecting the sale if there is a meaningful project for the citizens of the city," Dvořáčková said. The entrepreneur is interested in the land, but the city will not sell it until it knows what he wants to build there.

However, the city and the region must find a place for a replacement bus station. The new owner has already informed the regional representatives that he will terminate the contract with the carriers. Regional councilor Michal Kortyš (ODS) will meet this week with representatives of the owner and expects more details. At the same time, he will initiate negotiations with the city.

"We will explore several possible options for both stopping buses and parking them, which will not burden the city center and will be comfortable for the passengers themselves," Kortyš said.

One of the possibilities for temporarily establishing facilities for buses is the abandoned Masaryk Barracks, which the city owns, or the area in front of the train station in Rosice nad Labem. Regular buses could perhaps stop at Terminal A by the train station, which serves public transport, Dvořáčková stated.

Pardubice plans to build Terminal B right next to the train station one day. The current bus station is several hundred meters away. However, the project has not yet been approved by the councilors, nor is it prepared.

"I understand that this is a complicated situation. Terminal B will not come into existence overnight; it will take a few years. It is likely that by then, the original bus station will stop operating,"
Dvořáčková said.
