Pardubice

Pardubice - Pardubice will have four proposals by the end of October for what the area in front of the train station could look like. The original project was canceled due to several deficiencies. However, the city has received a promise of funding from Swiss funds for it. Its representatives may not approve further changes and may not extend the drawing deadline. Michal Koláček (Association for Pardubice), the mayor's deputy, told ČTK this.
"There is simply a risk that they will not accept the changes. It may happen, and I realistically expect it, that they will not extend the deadline for us. However, this area is so important to us that we do not want to rush it," said Koláček.
According to him, the city wants to properly solve the traffic-heavy area, and it is also likely that repairs will be funded by the European Union. Another funding period will come from 2014 to 2020. "This type of project should be strongly supported by the union," added Koláček.
In 2010, the city had three proposals developed, two of which were expensive and so futuristic that they could not be realized. The last project also showed a number of flaws. The city is now securing itself with four proposals. If none of them is perfect, a compilation of a "super good solution" will be made from all of them, Koláček said.
"We can combine the individual proposals and select the best partial solution from them. Subsequently, we will have it assessed by traffic microsimulation to avoid potential problems," Koláček stated.
The area in front of the station is to newly connect city and line transport. The bus station is currently several hundred meters away from the train station. At the same time, the area is to be structurally changed enough to accommodate the large number of cars that pass through there daily. The city has set several conditions that the design teams must incorporate into the proposals.
"This will mean a significant change to the project. The road behind the distillery has been dropped due to costs and difficulties with land, and the communication was also contentious from an environmental standpoint. Parking spaces will be rearranged, and the organization of buses in the area in front of the station will also change," Koláček said.
