Pardubice - The representatives of Pardubice today approved the plan to build two transport terminals near the train station. On one side, a so-called Terminal B is to be constructed to serve scheduled bus transport, while another terminal called South with a parking garage and public transport stops will be located behind the rail corridor. The city intends to obtain a subsidy from the Integrated Territorial Investment (ITI) program of the Hradec Králové - Pardubice agglomeration.
In the case of Terminal B, the representatives favored a more extensive variant. Its costs are estimated at 165 million crowns excluding land acquisition. Part of the land belongs to a private company and other entities. Some representatives expressed concerns about the increase in traffic problems, congested roads, and a lack of parking spaces. They were also opposed to the contemplated demolition of an apartment building that stands in the way of the terminal, which was recently renovated at a high cost.
On the other hand, there were no disputes regarding Terminal South in the Dukla area. In this location, a multi-story parking garage connected to a footbridge over the rail corridor to the main train station is to be built. Access roads, a roundabout, and public transport stops will also be constructed. Total costs are estimated at about 150 million crowns, with most of the expenses going to the parking garage. The city partially owns the land where the terminal will be located, and additional land has been secured.
The adopted resolution concerning Terminal B also includes a request for the Pardubice region to commit to its involvement in the construction, as the terminal will serve regional bus transport and will eventually replace the current bus station. It will also be necessary to specify the costs for land acquisition and other requirements of the private owner and to resolve the transportation and technical solutions for the area.
Pardubice is also pressed for time concerning the construction of Terminal B. The land under the current bus station was purchased by the holding company Czechoslovak Group, and it is unclear when the station will be closed.
Pardubice has already modified the area directly in front of the train station, where buses and trolleybuses stop for public transport. The costs amounted to 180 million crowns, of which 108 million crowns came from a Swiss subsidy.
