The association wants to obtain a grant for the restoration of the spa complex in Kyselka in the Karlovy Vary region

Kyselka – The Spa Association Kyselka is preparing a project for the comprehensive renovation of the former spa complex in Kyselka in the Karlovy Vary region, with which it aims to apply for a grant from the Just Transformation program. The gradual restoration of the devastated buildings with significant heritage value has so far progressed slowly. The Municipal Spa Kyselka project, which even received an award in the Karlovy Vary Region Building competition, could significantly advance the restoration process, believes Miroslav Perout, the director of the non-profit organization Spa Kyselka.

"If we want to bring life back to the entire complex, we cannot proceed building by building. We need to create a comprehensive project that will allow us to combine investments, partners, and various sources of funding. This is precisely the purpose of the next stage of preparation," Perout stated. The Spa Association Kyselka intends to inform the public about the upcoming project and other steps on September 10.

The Municipal Spa Kyselka project won first place this year in the Projects category of the Karlovy Vary Region Building competition. The expert jury of the competition, organized by the Regional Construction Association of Karlovy Vary, praised the design by the OV architects studio, authored by Štěpán Valouch.

The Kyselka spa complex is among the most valuable collections of spa architecture in the Czech Republic. The work done so far has helped stabilize the most endangered parts of the historic buildings and slow their further deterioration; however, on their own, they do not ensure the long-term preservation of the complex. The technical condition of the buildings continues to deteriorate, and the pace of their restoration is slower than the rate of decay given the current possibilities.

Therefore, the goal is not only to continue repairing individual structures but to prepare their restoration as one functional whole. Nine historic buildings are to create a modern center focused on health, longevity, and spa treatment, which will respect the heritage value of the location and bring long-term economic and social benefits to the region.

"This is not about one grant or one construction project. The goal is to prepare Kyselka so that it will be possible in the coming years to mobilize various sources of funding and significantly accelerate the restoration of the entire complex. If Kyselka is to truly live again, we need to proceed strategically and on a larger scale," says fundraising consultant Erika Smrtová.

The non-profit organization Spa Kyselka is collaborating with expert and regional partners in preparing the proposal, including the Institute of Spa Science and Balneology and the National Heritage Institute. In the future, it also plans to collaborate with the Faculty of Architecture of the Czech Technical University in Prague. The project has received support from the Karlovy Vary Region, the City of Karlovy Vary, the municipality of Kyselka, and the Mattoni 1873 company.
