Prague - The Prague 8 municipal office has reconstructed the fountain at Ládví, which had been out of service for approximately 30 years. The fountain from the 1980s has had its granite stones completely cleaned, and the municipality has installed modern technology in it. The office is also preparing the revitalization of its surroundings, where relaxation zones will be created. The completion of the work is scheduled for the first half of 2024. This was reported today by Prague 8 spokesperson Martin Šalek to ČTK.
The fountain is part of the expert-valued housing estate in Ďáblice. The municipal office is collaborating with the city hall and the neighboring Penny Market on the renovation of the fountain and its surroundings.
"Years ago, the municipality agreed on the fountain's reconstruction with local citizens from the Beautiful Kobylisy association, and subsequently a memorandum was signed with the Penny company. The investment in the fountain and the entire area has been divided. The company financed the fountain's reconstruction according to our specification, while Prague 8 and the city will take care of the revitalization of the surroundings," said Deputy Mayor Tomáš Hřebík (STAN).
Experts have completely cleaned and restored the damaged granite shell of the fountain, which has also been treated with a graffiti-resistant coating. New technology has been installed inside the fountain. The jets will be programmed for several operation modes and can be illuminated in various colors. The fountain will also be able to respond to weather changes and has features to prevent the clogging of drainage channels. It will be possible to control it remotely.
The municipality is currently preparing the renewal of the center of Ládví Square around the fountain. In the first half of December, workers will finish laying the granite surface and the surrounding framework of the relaxation zone. "We also plan to equip the area around the fountain with improved benches. The final completion is scheduled for the middle of next year, when the surrounding greenery will be adjusted. We want to plant perennial flowerbeds on a gravelly sandy base around the fountain, which will enhance the aesthetic impression of the whole space," Hřebík stated.
The architectural appearance of the fountain works with square outlines reflecting the form of the modernist architectural concept of the estate and public spaces at Ládví. The author is architect Viktor Tuček Jr., who is the son of the chief architect of the Ďáblické housing estate. In recent years, there have been discussions about its removal, against which a portion of local residents has protested.
