Prague - The Prague City Hall will grant the Gallery of the Capital City of Prague (GHMP) 34 million crowns for two art pieces that will be created in the vestibule of the Prague metro station Florenc and under the newly emerging Dvorecky Bridge between Prague 4 and Prague 5. The allocation of funds was approved today by the city councilors. The light installation Synapse at Florenc by Jan Poš will cost around 18 million crowns, while the collection of works designated for Dvorecky Bridge will cost the city approximately 16 million crowns.
The light work Synapse succeeded in a competition announced by GHMP and the Prague Public Transit Company (DPP) and will be located in the passage connecting the north and south vestibule of the Florenc C metro station. The installation on the front wall of the underpass will record the movement of passengers and will expand the existing mosaic Battle at Sokolovo. At the same time, DPP is repairing the ceiling structure above the station vestibule at Florenc due to corrosion.
The Dvorecky Bridge began construction in September 2022, with the project estimated to cost about 1.1 billion crowns and scheduled for completion in the second half of next year. There will be several art pieces under the bridge, including a concrete neocubist sculpture, an industrial enlargement of a chandelier, or an installation with 120 public lights from around the world.
A few years ago, Prague introduced the Art for the City program, which was established to revitalize public space, restore the public’s contact with contemporary art, and provide a space for the self-realization of artists. The works will be owned by the capital city, with GHMP as the guarantor of the program.
