Prague - The Prague City Hall will have the tender brief for the construction project of the new headquarters for the rescue service redrafted, which is to be built in the area of the Prosek Polyclinic in Střížkov. As Milena Johnová (Prague Sobě) told ČTK, the original brief only anticipated the construction of the headquarters, but it is now planned to utilize the land in cooperation with Prague 9 for other buildings intended for social or health purposes. The City Hall will have a feasibility study prepared for this, approved by the council today.
"We would like the area to be used for other purposes besides the construction of the rescue service headquarters," said Johnová. She added that nothing is changing in the original plan, only the intended use of the land is to be expanded for other purposes. The council member further stated that within weeks, the City Hall will present a plan in cooperation with Prague 9 regarding what specifically should be developed in the area.
The rescue service currently shares premises with the municipal police in a building on Korunní, and its leadership has long complained about the inadequacy of the space. The new headquarters should include administration, dispatch, and an educational and training center. In the past, the city also considered placing the headquarters in Troja, but the local city hall opposed this plan, and the City Hall ultimately abandoned it.
The previous leadership of the City Hall also considered plots in Střížkov, but ultimately chose the plan to place the headquarters in an unfinished building in Palmovka, where the Prague 8 city hall was originally supposed to be located. At that time, it seemed that the long-standing dispute over the property between Prague 8, the City Hall, and the company Metrostav would be resolved. The district was to complete the building and receive 600 million from the City Hall for that purpose. Ultimately, the city hall did not reach an agreement with Metrostav, and the completion of the building remains blocked, so the current city leadership has returned to the option of a new building in Střížkov.
The Prague rescue service operates more than twenty emergency bases and is gradually building more. The organization's annual budget is around half a billion crowns. Last year, paramedics dealt with 128,238 cases, which is 759 fewer than the year before. Dispatchers of the rescue service received 209,000 emergency calls last year.
