Prague - The leadership of the capital city will approve the announcement of a competition in mid-August for a company that will repair the Šlechta Restaurant in Stromovka. Interested parties will likely be able to apply for the tender starting in September. The long-planned reconstruction of the historic building will start next year. This was said by councilor Jan Wolf (KDU-ČSL/Trojkoalice) in an interview with ČTK. The repair should cost a maximum of 169 million crowns.
"I am glad that after many decades we have finally reached this stage. I believe that the reconstruction will quickly follow," Wolf stated. The plan includes the restoration of the heritage-protected restaurant and the hosting of wedding ceremonies.
Workers will first stabilize the slope around the restaurant and remove excess soil before the actual building repair begins. The historical elements, including the ceiling fresco of Apollo with Venus and an artificial dripstone cave that used to have a statue of Poseidon, will be restored inside. The operation of the park should not be restricted during the reconstruction.
The repair of the monument was originally estimated at about a quarter of a billion crowns. However, the architect was tasked with simplifying the overly expensive project. The expensive staircases, elevators, and unnecessary social facilities will be reduced.
The Šlechta Restaurant building, formerly known as the Royal Hall, is a cultural monument. It is named after its last owner, Václav Šlechta. Its oldest part dates back to the end of the 17th century, but the building was completed in the mid-19th century.
