Prague - At the Prague Old Town Hall, people can view an exhibition starting today that showcases the development possibilities of the area surrounding Masaryk Stadium in Strahov. The exhibition was created based on an urban planning competition announced by the city's development department this January. The exhibition will run until October 19, open on Mondays from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and from Tuesday to Sunday from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

Despite Strahov being a place with a rich sporting tradition, it is currently rather deteriorating. The dominant feature of the area is the listed Masaryk Stadium, which, according to the competition organizers, is not functionally or economically viable. Some urban planners even consider Strahov to be one of the largest brownfields in Prague.
According to Marie Plívová from the city development department, the competition was not meant to select a specific solution but rather to show how the neglected space of Strahov could be utilized in the future. Participants could choose from two basic directions for their solutions - general use of Strahov or use for the potential hosting of the Olympic Games.
A total of 23 proposals were submitted from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Germany. Eight authors opted for the Olympic solution, while the rest focused on the general development of the area. The expert jury awarded five proposals the same financial amount, while one proposal received a lower financial reward. "The proposals do not yield clear conclusions; rather, they should open further discussion," said Plívová to ČTK.
Visitors to the exhibition can view all 23 solutions, based on which a sports center, golf course, cable car, museum, multiplex cinema, hotels, and residential buildings could be developed in Strahov. Guests can express their opinions on individual proposals or write how they would like to utilize the area in the future.
The city development department now aims to generalize the results of the competition and incorporate them into the planned new territorial plan concept.
