Most – In Most, the transformation of Střed Park will begin in April according to the design by architects. Klára Vydrová, the spokesperson for the city hall, informed ČTK. The complex will include a café, playground, and water features. The costs for revitalization exceed 66 million crowns.
Střed Park is located between the city center and the sports hall. The city received a grant of 25 million crowns from the Karel Komárek Foundation for the revitalization. The reconstruction was preceded by a public opinion survey in which people expressed what they wanted in the park. The project documentation was completed by the city at the end of last year. The park will be modified according to the design teams of architects and landscape architects led by Till Rehwaldt and Patrik Hoffman, who won the architectural competition.
The park is designed to require low financial and time demands for maintenance. "Our intention was to make the park a lively place again with unique greenery, sustainable water features, and the necessary facilities for gatherings. The winning solution meets these needs, addresses the risk of vandalism, and ensures we can maintain the park's operation in the future," said Mayor Jan Paparega (ProMOST) earlier.
Part of the project is managing rainwater. Tree removal will be minimal, and additional trees will be planted. The artworks in the park will be preserved. "We appreciated the winning concept mainly for its clean landscape solution, which revitalizes the original heart of the park with the fountain in a limited form while sensitively complementing it with new architectural elements. The design also best met the competition criteria," stated the chairman of the competition jury, Petr Lešek.
The park was designed in the 1960s by architect Václav Krejčí and landscape architect Otakar Kuča. Five proposals were submitted for the architectural competition. In the selected solution, the original cascade of water features is preserved only partially for economic reasons. Two of the water features in the center of the park will be replaced by a stage for smaller cultural events and a café, near which there will be a playground for small children. Another multifunctional area, a playground with seating steps, will connect the park to the stadium. The sports area and children's playground will include a camera system.
