Přerov - The leadership of Přerov today signed a contract with the company VCES, which will begin the reconstruction of the five-story administrative building in TGM Square in January, the future new headquarters of the magistrate. This is the largest and most expensive reconstruction of a property owned by the city of Přerov, and the Prague-based company will carry it out for 359.5 million crowns. The city has obtained a grant of 167 million crowns from the State Investment Support Fund for the refurbishment of the building. According to the grant conditions, the property must serve its purpose in 2026.

Mayor Petr Vrána (ANO) stated that the city has been working for two years on the planned transformation of the unappealing building in the square, involving experts in architectural and urban planning dialogues. "The building should primarily serve the citizens of Přerov; the lower two floors will house services such as civil affairs, passports, and driver's licenses. About one-third of our officials should fit into the building. The construction should take two years. After that, we will put this building, which will certainly be a landmark of the square, into operation," said the mayor after signing the contract.

The extensive reconstruction was sought by the company VCES in a tender process. They offered the lowest price while also respecting the established procurement conditions. The selection of the contractor was subsequently confirmed by the representatives. Zdeněk Pokorný, the chairman of the board of VCES, told reporters today that work should begin in January, with the first six months allocated to demolition. "We will try to minimize disruption to the operation of this square as much as possible," stated Pokorný. He told ČTK that contracts worth around 300 million crowns are the most common in the company’s portfolio. "The project appealed to us due to its complexity. Currently, we are renovating a hotel in the center of Prague; it's a certain challenge, but we have experience with it," added Pokorný.

The reconstruction of the administrative building from the late 1960s, which has faced criticism for its current appearance, will take place according to a design by Anagram&Gruppa. It will include offices, meeting rooms, restrooms, and publicly accessible hall spaces. The building will also feature a café with a view of the city, and an architecturally interesting staircase will run along the transparent facade. The city purchased the property in 2020 for 38 million crowns with the aim of building a new magistrate's headquarters, which is intended to accommodate approximately 160 officials.

According to Deputy Vladimír Lichnovský (ANO), the city will ensure time-lapse recordings from cameras to document the reconstruction work. These will also be preserved for future generations.
